With the Winter Series returning to Winchester for its penultimate race, the Jim Barnett Park 3 Miler proved quite popular among SVR members and non-SVR members alike. Race director Tom Sullivan reported that he had gotten calls from people inquiring about the race from as far away as Roanoke. One couple, Barry Demangone and Nancy Sarneshi, came down from Pennsylvania-- they were in town to get married! Our best wishes go out to the two of them. Temperatures were moderate and winds were fairly calm as the runners looped twice through the hilly Jim Barnett Park and up the sidewalk along Pleasant Valley Avenue. Ruth Riemenschneider won the women's race by a minute and a half, but runners-up Michelle Van Horn and Krista Farris also took home trophies for their efforts. In the men's race, Bobby Lockhart nudged out Eric Chandler for the top spot, with Dustin Sweeney taking third. |
