All of the top women showed up at the Claymont Retro Ramble 5K, so there wasn't much question as to the outcome of the women's Winter Series. 40-year-old Kim Burns has come out on top, finishing comfortably ahead of last year's Winter Series champ Krista Farris. Third and fourth go to Heather Owens and Tracy Herron-Rice, both of whom ran well all winter. The only real battle was between SVR Junior President Kim Weisgerber and newcomer Mary Page, who were tied for fifth going into the final race. But 17-year-old Mary ran well, beat Kim easily, and earned her first-ever Winter Series award! Mary also wins a Perfect Attendance award along with Krista, Tracy, Nancy Specht, and Jen Peachey. POINTS & AWARDS: After each race, runners are awarded points based on how they finish against members of their own sex. The winner gets 50 points, second place gets 49, etc. If a runner participates in all of the Winter Series events, that runner's lowest result is dropped from the point totals. (In other words, each runner's seven best point totals count.) Awards are given to the top five men and women at the end of the series. Persons with 100% participation in the series also receive awards. Awards will be presented at the annual SVR Banquet in March 2000.
