With the top five men locked into position since Winter Series race #6, the Claymont Retro Ramble 5K was merely a formality. 17-year-old Clarke County High School phenom Dustin Sweeney has emerged as the 1999-2000 men's Winter Series champ! Teens Ryan Bayne and Jeff Jardine, finishing second and third, both ran strong all winter. Veteran Neal Riemenschneider wins fourth, adding to his vast collection of series awards. And newcomer Bill Frye's consistently solid performances have earned him fifth place. Additionally, ten men have won Perfect Attendance awards: Dustin, Neal, Charlie Bowles, Karsten Brown, Jason Page, John Rice, Andrew Haywood, Paul Grosz, the Mighty Patrick Farris, and 9-year-old Running God Jasper Waugh-Quasebarth. POINTS & AWARDS: After each race, runners are awarded points based on how they finish against members of their own sex. The winner gets 50 points, second place gets 49, etc. If a runner participates in all of the Winter Series events, that runner's lowest result is dropped from the point totals. (In other words, each runner's seven best point totals count.) Awards are given to the top five men and women at the end of the series. Persons with 100% participation in the series also receive awards. Awards will be presented at the annual SVR Banquet in March 2000.
