| Male 13 & Under |
| Austin Cote was the favorite in this age group, running three of the first four races, but by missing the second half of the series, he missed out on an award, too. |
| Ineligible: Austin Cote, Dillon Robb, Roy McKenzie |
| Male 14-16 |
| This award was tossed in the dumpster after the fifth race, with nobody coming close to meeting the eligibility requirements. |
| Ineligible: Sean Ashworth, Zach Frye, Brian Markley, Adam Markley |
| Male 17-19 |
|
| With Chuck Bowles firmly entrenched in the top five, two of the best high school runners in the region faced off for this |
| Ineligible: John Sturm |
| Male 20-29 |
|
| Michael Wilcox's position in the top five left the door wide open for Jonathan Whitehead to win this age group, and if you ask me, Jon deserves the award, too! |
| Ineligible: Ryan Bayne, Erjan Akkus, Karsten Brown, Craig Whitson, Josh Adams, Ron Young, Justin Thaine, Kevin Walizer, Alan Efremoff, Matt Larsen, Joe Pilch, Scott Yost |
| Male 30-39 |
|
| This was a tough age group, but by the seventh race, Big John Rice all but had it locked up. Kennon Yeck and Chris Northrup were mathematically stuck in the top five, and Mark Stickley, John's only real threat, had to cover the high school state wrestling meet for the Northern Virginia Daily on the morning of the final race. Still, John's consistent performances are what won it for him, besting the likes of newcomers Mike Brown and Mark Belanger (who also ran well). |
| Ineligible: Mark Stickley, Mark Vann, Rick Norton, Ned Barrett, Richard Updike, Joel McKenzie, Keith Kreuz, Frank Curiel, Ted Poulos, Jonathan Bellingham, Gregory McConville, Michael Onda, Rob Allen, Paul Hyde, Thomas Robb, Tom Farrell, David Craig, David Titus, Dave Donohue, Craig Clauson, John Heick, Chris Hallam, Tom Grady, Tim Osowski |
| Male 40-49 |
|
| Mike Allen locked up his award just by running the Claymont race, leaving Myron Kremer one race short on points. Michael Triantafillou ran enough races but didn't have the points to end up near the speedier Mike, though he put in a good showing for his first Winter Series. |
| Ineligible: Jon Campbell, Sid Smith, Denny Maietta, Richard Kerby, Denny Myers, Bill Stewart, Vincent McDonald, Jim Shaughnessy, Chris Gaidrich, Stan Brooks, Steven Dobbin, William Frye, Bruce Turnbull, Bill Daniels, Gary Matheus, John Winkert, Bill Osuch, Anthony Markley, Jerry Naylor, Ed Barks, Michael Eisenfeld, Barry Freeman |
| Male 50-59 |
|
| Good ol' Randy Wingfield ran all eight races, and as he's faster than Paul Grosz and Herb Sturm, he was never threatened for this award. In fact, had somebody fallen from the top five at the final race, Randy would've moved up to an overall award! |
| Ineligible: Chuck Raper, Jon Palks, Billy Farrell, Ray Kitchen, Terry Bursey, Bill Senseney, Imants Celtnieks, Glenn Luttrell, Tom Sullivan, Pat Griffith, Jason Page, Barry Demangone, Reynold Orchard, Tom Fromme, Ed Klejnowski |
| Male 60-69 |
|
| Pete Martin ran the first five races, clinched his age group, and promptly stayed home for the last three races! Pete's a great runner, though, and there's no question he's deserving of the award. |
| Ineligible: Eldon Winston, Terence McCarthy, Will Chipps, Clark Larsen, Michael Wilson |
| Male 70 & Over |
|
| Wow, this one was a nailbiter! Robie Cone was way ahead in points going into the final race, but both he and Bob Atkins had to show up just to be eligible for the age group award. Bob ran the last race, Robie didn't, and so Bob won-- with three points less than Robie! Kind of like losing the popular presidential vote but winning in the electoral college, eh? Regardless, both Bob and Robie are immensely respected runners, and we doff our caps to both of them. |
| Ineligible: Robie Cone |
